As the countdown to tree decorating begins, now’s the time to decide what you want your tree to look like this year. Maybe you’ve just bought a new tree, downsized to a pencil tree or tabletop tree to save space, or just want an ornament makeover–a fresher, more cohesive look for your tree. Choosing a set of coordinated Christmas balls can immediately transform the color palette of your tree into something balanced and dazzling.
The Christmas ball is a timeless ornament. It’s an old-fashioned shape that can be customized with different modern colors, textures, finishes, and images–blending the old with the new. Because there tend to be several balls of the same shape and color on your tree, Christmas balls have a heavy influence on how your tree will look overall. That’s why it’s so important to consider these ornaments when you’re curated your tree’s color scheme. Christmas ball sets can even help you choose your Christmas color palette as each set has its own harmonious color palette.
Christmas tree color schemes of 2017.
Rustic neutrals and golds. This year the golden, tan, and brown tree are on trend. It’s a light tree that works in all rooms and has a more refined, natural look compared to other palettes. Look for rose golds, bright and muted golds, browns, and whites.
Red and gold. The classic poinsettia red pops against your green Christmas tree while gold accents help move your eye around the tree. It creates a very gilded, opulent look. Look for deep reds and golds with lots of shine to them.
Blues. Maybe not the most traditional color for your tree, but covering your tree in whites and blues makes for a dramatic, eye-catching tree. This color scheme stands out best when you have light-colored walls and neutral furniture. It also makes a great foundation for an ocean themed tree. Having a blue Christmas isn’t always a bad thing. Look for light blues, turquoises, whites, and gold or silver accents.
Traditional. This is always in style. Enjoy the not-so-coordinated look of the mish-mash of ornaments you’ve collected over the years. Maybe they’ve been handed down across generations. Make this look a little neater with Christmas balls that complement the classic Christmas spirit. Look for reds, greens, and whites.
I’ve pulled together what I think are the best Christmas balls out this 2017 holiday season. Let’s get to it.
1. Shatterproof Gold Baubles Christmas Ball Set
These unique ornaments from Sea Team are all clear Christmas balls filled with gold accents for a bubbly, champagne effect. In this pack of 24, the ornaments are filled with four different baubles: a string of gold beads, gold tinsel, packed with tiny gold beads, and gold glitter. I love glitter ornaments on my tree, but I don’t love the cleanup from all the glitter fall-out. Sea Team has actually painted the glitter on the inside of their clear ornaments so there’s no glitter shedding, which is pretty brilliant. The ornaments are made of a shatterproof eco-friendly plastic, so they can last you years. This style of ornament also comes in blue, red, and silver.

2. Turquoise Shatterproof Christmas Ball Ornaments
This set of 24 Christmas balls from Woowell is a stunning shade of turquoise that’s nearly a sea green. With how much sea green was the decor accent color of choice the past couple years, a turquoise tree might complement what you already have in your home. The three different ornament types are frosted glitter, textured ball with silver glitter accents, and one that looks like it’s covered in turquoise scales. Can you say mermaid Christmas tree? They’re made of shatterproof, eco-friendly plastic that’s durable enough to survive children, cats, and just plain clumsy folks like me. This style also comes in gold and red.

3. Glittering Painted Shatterproof Copper Christmas Balls
I love the coppery rose gold of these ornaments, especially the transparent ones. This 30 pack of Christmas balls has six different styles of ornaments, all sharing this coppery color. All of the ornaments are hand-painted with gold, copper, and white glitter to create these lovely designs. The glitter is on the outside of the ball this time so just be aware of that. It’s a great color, great variety, and great value for your money. They are made of shatterproof, eco-friendly plastic and also come in blue, gold, red, and grey.

4. Red & White Snowflake Shatterproof Christmas Balls
These are so Christmas-y. You get 25 ornaments in five different designs of snowflakes in combinations of red and white. The patterns wouldn’t be out of place on a Christmas sweater or warm mittens. Do expect some glitter shedding with these. It’s kind of the price you pay for having a fabulous, sparkly holiday. This is a great choice for a cheery, playful tree with traditional Christmas colors. They’re shatterproof plastic so you don’t have to worry about broken glass.

5. Silver Embossed Glittering Christmas Balls
For a silvery, icy tree, check out this 24 pack of wintry ornaments. There are six different designs. One of them has an embossed surface giving it a unique geometric look. Another is a clear ornament with silver glitter. The rest are all silver Christmas balls that have been hand-painted with silver and white glitter. What makes this set stand out from all the other silver Christmas balls is the inclusion of the blue and silver design. Throwing in that small bit of blue gives this color scheme a more dynamic and wintry look. These would go amazingly with an icicle garland. They’re shatterproof and come in silver, blue, red, and gold with a red accent.

6. Colorful Pink Christmas Ball Decorations
Sometimes you’ve got to get a little bold, or quirky even. A tree decorated with unexpected bright colors is a surefire way to stand out. These pastel pink Christmas balls come in a pack of 24 and in four different styles: metallic, glitter, geometric embossed (which is going to throw your Christmas tree lights all around the room), and frosted embossed. The different textures mean that each style has a slightly different shade of pink which keeps your tree interesting. These are a slightly darker pink than they photograph, just so you’re aware. This pink is lovely against green, and if you were to also include other pastels you can get a neat candy effect. They’re made of shatterproof, eco-friendly plastic are also available in coffee, gold, purple, red, and silver.

7. Gold & White Painted Christmas Balls
For the elegant and stylish tree, take a look at these hand-painted white and gold Christmas balls. The 24 shatterproof ornaments are either a creamy white with gold glitter designs or a high shine metallic gold with white glitter. One of the five designs even has an amber-colored plastic gem as an accent. These would be perfect for a minimalist tree with few ornaments as they pack a lot of visual punch on their own, or if you’re looking for a dramatic, luxe looking tree.

8. Champagne & Burgundy Shatterproof Christmas Balls
If you’re feeling the textured ornaments this year, this 24 ornament set has variety of embossed finishes. Half of the ornaments are this luscious, deep red wine color that pairs perfectly with the golds in this color palette. The only smooth Christmas ball is this burgundy in a matte finish with a gold glitter snowflake design painted on it. The other purple ornament has soft, pumpkin-like ridges. The silver has a geometric pattern of angled squares giving it an almost disco ball effect when near lights and is decorated with coppery gold glitter. The last is a champagne colored ball with raised swirling horizontal ridges, accented with gold glitter. This set will have some glitter fall-out, but I think it’s worth it for the unique color scheme. It’s also available in coffee tones.

9. Burnt Orange & White Striped Christmas Balls With Teardrop
A little more off the beaten track, we have these creamsicle shatterproof ornaments from Yoland. In the set of 24, you get four different ornament styles: copper glitter, orange metallic, creamsicle swirl, and teardrop shaped creamsicle swirl. Orange isn’t your typical Christmas tree ornament color, but it has a surprisingly nice contrast against your tree. I like the unique color and the addition of the one teardrop design to vary it up a bit. This style also comes in gold, red, silver, and Champagne.

10. Red, Green & White Swirl Christmas Balls
Get extra Christmas-y with the set that has more variety than any other on this list. There are 12 different styles and you get two of each for a total of 24 ornaments. You have a mix of smooth glitter, pinecone embossed, and Charlie Brown style chevron stripes. The dark green, light green, red, and white colors are festive and bright. Having the two different color greens really helps them stand out against the branches of the tree, which can be a problem with some green ornaments. They’re a tiny bit bigger than standard size Christmas balls and are shatterproof.
