Tonight is episode 1 of the battle rounds on season 13 of The Voice, with Jennifer Hudson, Blake Shelton, Miley Cyrus and Adam Levine in charge of each of their teams. Get the details on each of the celebrity advisers who the judges have brought on to assist them this season.
Jennifer Hudson is bringing on music artist Kelly Rowland as her team adviser for her first season on the show. WJBD Radio reports why Hudson chose Rowland to be her adviser, stating that:
I wanted Kelly to be a part of it because I have always been a fan of Kelly … We came into the industry two different ways … [We can] show the contestants that there is no set formula to success…everyone has their own path and you can learn from me, from my way, or you can learn from someone like Kelly in her way.
Meanwhile, Rowland says she loves the way Hudson coaches her team and that she’s just very “real”. Former Destiny’s Child star Rowland is actually a part of The Voice: Australia.
As Blake Shelton is a country star, he has summoned fellow country artists Rascal Flatts to join him in advising his team this season. And Shelton recently talked with News Channel Nebraska about the importance of coaching and what it takes to win The Voice. Shelton explained:
When it comes to working with young people as a coach on this show, it’s a delicate balance, I think. Because you can definitely, I think, push a young person too hard and you’ve gotta listen to ’em, you know … They also, at the same, time need a little whip-crackin’ also. Every single one of ’em do, you know. Because, look, this is not easy. If you want to do this, you’ve got to be ready to hear the word no a lot. You’ve got to be able to take some criticism and some honesty. None of us have it figured out.
Gary LeVox, Joe Don Rooney and Jay DeMarcus of Rascal Flatts reportedly have a long history of working with Shelton in music.
Billy Ray Cyrus
Billy Ray Cyrus has already made one appearance so far this season, popping in during the blind auditions. Now, Billy Ray is joining daughter Miley Cyrus’ team as an adviser for her team of contestants, going into the battle rounds. Miley Cyrus has returned to The Voice after a season hiatus and she has been making the rounds at awards shows, performing her latest music, from hits like “Malibu” to her song “Younger Now.”
Billy Ray Cyrus and wife Tish have been in headlines lately, because of the calling off of their divorce. The couple has had public ups and downs over the years, first filing for divorce in 2010, then again in 2013, according to E! News. The pair appear to be going strong once again and daughter Miley recently told Cosmopolitan that:
One thing I’ve learned about marriage from my parents: Nothing and no one stays the same. Grow, evolve, change with each other and celebrate your love’s journey!
As Adam Levine’s team adviser this season, Joe Jonas of DNCE is on board. And, recently Jonas was in the media for his getting engaged to girlfriend and actress Sophie Turner. A source told People that friends and family close to the couple are very happy about the news. The insider stated:
Everybody’s very, very happy for them and their family and friends are all thrilled. Everyone loves them together … She’s young but is beyond her years and is crazy, crazy mature. He’s never been like this with a girl … He was such a dater before her but their relationship was much different from the start. She was just the one for him.
Turner is 21, while Jonas is 28 years old. And, many know Turner from her role on Game of Thrones.
