With the roster the Golden State Warriors have constructed, many teams have decided to wait out the next few seasons in an attempt to reload once the Warriors have finished their run. The Houston Rockets took the exact opposite approach as they went after Chris Paul in one of the more unique trades we have seen pulled off in the modern NBA era.

Paul joins James Harden to form one of the best backcourts in the NBA. Here’s a look at the projected starting lineup and roster for the Rockets heading into the 2017-18 season.

PG: Chris Paul, Bobby Brown, Demetrius Jackson (two-way)
SG: James Harden, Eric Gordon
SF: Trevor Ariza, P.J. Tucker, Troy Williams
PF: Ryan Anderson, L. Mbah a Moute, Tarik Black
C: Clint Capela, Maybyner Nene, Chinanu Onuaku, Zhou Qi

The Rockets sacrificed depth to acquire one of the best point guards in the league. Both Harden and Paul have had their share of regular season success. What is missing from both player’s resumes is post-season success. Rockets GM Daryl Morey is hoping pairing the two together can change the playoff results, not only for the players individually, but for the Rockets franchise.

Houston may still be a few moves away from what we see by the time the NBA playoffs roll around. My concern is the Rockets playing in a seven-game series with their current roster. Teams like the Warriors and Cavs have a much deeper rotation in addition to the stars both teams lean on.
