Here we are 8 years after Kate Middleton emerged on the scene boosting fashion brands with the “Middleton Effect,” and it would seem that Middleton’s sister-in-law Meghan Markle has the same sartorial power: she wears something and it flies off of the shelves. It’s as simple as that. And we have proof her impact is real, too. The Duchess of Sussex wore Outland Denim during her first official visit to Australia and according to the brand their sales have surged.
What kind of surge are we talking about? A 950% increase in sales since she first wore the label’s designs last week! As we reported earlier, Markle has been sporting the brand whose mission is dedicated to environmental friendliness and social change by providing employment opportunities for vulnerable women in high risk situations around the world.
Even better: the sales boost courtesy of the Duchess has allowed them to further employ 15 to 30 extra seamstresses in its Cambodian production house in the coming weeks. “It is quite remarkable to think the Duchess of Sussex’s influence means more jobs almost immediately,” said Outland Denim founder, James Bartle. “This means women will be able to earn a living wage, provide for their children in terms of nutrition, care and education, and will gain new skills and confidence in a positive workplace environment.”
Markle has emerged as the royal fashion activist, using her platform to promote ethical and eco-friendly brands over the last few weeks. This, of course, is in line with her husband Prince Harry, who recently announce scholarships to research global climate change during their Australia trip.
