Netflix has renewed Big Mouth for a third overall season on the streaming platform. Creators Nick Kroll and Andrew Goldberg revealed the news via the show’s social media pages on Saturday.
The animated comedy series, which is helmed by two real-life best friends, is a coming-of-age tale of teenage sexual discovery and the consequences of puberty. The creators have previously shared that many of the stories were inspired by their own awkward and retrospectively hilarious experiences when they were teenagers.
“Whenever we interviewed a writer for the show we’d always say, ‘Tell us about what it was like when you had your first period, or what it was like when you were caught masturbating,’” said director Mark Levin during last year’s PaleyFest panel for the show. “That was the litmus test because they had to be able to freely open up. We made the room a really safe place where everyone could talk about that.”
While Kroll voices his own teenage character, among others, comedian John Mulaney (Kroll’s Too Much Tuna cohort) provides the voice for Goldberg’s character.
Maya Rudolph, Jason Mantzoukas, Jordan Peele, Fred Armisen, Jenny Slate, and Jessi Klein are also part of the featured voice cast for the series. Screenwriters and directors Mark Levin and Jennifer Flackett co-created and executive produce the Netflix original production along with Kroll and Goldberg.
Season 2 just recently debuted on October 5 and Season 3 will premiere sometime in 2019. You can check out the official renewal announcement below.
